3rd session of the IALA Council held

The Director of the Navigation Safety Directorate, Captain Siniša Orlić, and the Head of the Navigation Safety and Environmental Protection Sector at Sea and Inland Waters, Toni Maričević, as representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and members of the Croatian delegation, participated in the work of the 3rd session of the Council of the International Organization for Maritime Aids to Navigation (IALA), which was held from 8 to 12 December 2020 in Mumbai, India.

The IALA Council, composed of 25 representatives of IALA member states, approved the acts that guide its further work at the session, which, among other things, supported the continuation of work on the establishment of IALA regional centers of excellence in support of its global mission. IALA’s financial framework for the period 2026-2027 was also confirmed, and the IALA Committee’s work program for the period 2025 was approved. – 2027. with an emphasis on the development of cyber security, advancement of digitization, support to member states for the application of the S-100 ECDIS standard, as well as support for the development of S-200 product specifications.

At its session, the Council approved new Recommendations on the digitalisation of maritime navigation aids (AtoN) and services for vessels of different levels of autonomy, as well as new Guidelines for the use of drones for the purpose of AtoN surveillance and maintenance. It also approved a number of other acts with an emphasis on maritime navigation aids and maritime traffic surveillance and management (VTS).
