Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković was a guest on the Croatian Radio show “A sada Vlada”. He spoke about the modernization of Jadrolinija and investments in port infrastructure.
Speaking about Jadrolinija, he pointed out that the fleet renewal cycle continues. This includes the acquisition of new ships and the modernization of existing capacities. A tender for a new ship “Nova Postira” for the Elaphiti Islands is underway, while the purchase of ten new ships is also planned in parallel. Financing will be provided in part through a loan from the World Bank.
He stressed that the goal is to reduce the average age of the fleet, increase safety and improve the efficiency of coastal liner transport. This is of particular importance for connecting islands to the mainland.
In addition to the fleet, significant emphasis has been placed on the development of port infrastructure. Investments in ports along the Croatian coast exceed 300 million euros, and projects include the modernization of operational quays, improvement of piers and increase of ship reception capacity.
The combination of a more modern fleet and improved port infrastructure represents a key step towards more reliable and safer coastal traffic.
