This morning, a fire broke out in the ship’s galley on the tourist ship Casanova, anchored in Makarska. Thanks to the extremely quick and courageous intervention of the crew, the ship was immediately evacuated and all guests on board were taken care of in a safe manner. According to available information, none of the guests were injured.
Unfortunately, the captain and owner of the ship, Velibor Vuković, and his brother Krešimir Vuković, who is also a crew member, were injured while extinguishing the fire. Both were treated in hospital, and the Croatian Association of Private Shipowners would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere wishes for their speedy and complete recovery.
The quick and decisive reaction of the crew, as well as the timely arrival of firefighters, police and ambulance, made it possible to quickly localize the fire and prevent major material damage.
We would like to point out that a police investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances surrounding the fire.
The Croatian Association of Private Shipowners thanks all participants in the rescue operation for their professionalism, dedication and quick intervention. We would also like to express our special thanks to the services on the ground who once again demonstrated their commitment to the safety of our members and their guests. The guests were unharmed and fully taken care of, and we believe that the Casanova ship, after repair, will soon return to regular sailing.
Members of the Croatian Association of Private Shipowners are available to the owners of the Casanova ship for all necessary assistance and support in further steps.
We wish the injured crew members a speedy recovery and return to the deck of the Casanova.
