According to Intrepid Travel’s new list, “2026 Not Hot List”, the island of Vis in Croatia has been recognized as one of ten lesser-known, but extremely attractive tourist destinations, ready for more visitors in 2026. This selection particularly highlights Vis as a peaceful haven that fosters a smaller, locally-based tourist offer, preserving its special charm and slower pace of life.
Visa’s inclusion on this prestigious list confirms the strategy of Croatian tourism in promoting sustainable and quality tourism, i.e. positioning Croatia as a destination that has its own identity, authentic content and potential to attract travel enthusiasts looking for new experiences and lesser-known destinations.
The publication of this list also prompted the prestigious British Mirror to publish an article about Vis entitled “Underrated island that’s ‘real-life Mamma Mia’ has amazing beaches and no tourists“.
The article points out that Vis offers untouched nature, a peaceful atmosphere and authentic Dalmatian culture, making it an ideal destination for travelers looking for an escape from mass tourism.
Particularly noteworthy are its hidden coves, crystal clear sea and the charming towns of Vis and Komiža, which radiate historical charm and local spirit. This article further confirms Vis’s position as one of the most special destinations on the Croatian coast, offering an authentic experience in line with sustainable tourism and cultural heritage preservation.
