The association of sea captains and officers on the occasion of the holiday of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, organizes the ceremonial laying of a wreath in the sea in memory of the dead and missing sailors. The celebration of this important day will begin on Friday, December 6th, with a Holy Mass in the church of St. Nicholas in Šibenik, which will be held starting at 9:30.
After the Mass, the ships “Lastavica”, “Excellence Nera”, “Destro” and “Delta” will set sail, which will depart from Gata Krka (west and east side) at 11:30 am. The ships will form a convoy, accompanied by the ships of the Maritime Police, the Captaincy, the Fishery Inspection and the JK Val boat. The convoy will sail through the St. Ante to the wreath-laying place, where they will pay their respects to all sailors who died or went missing.
After the ceremony, the ships will return to the port, where a reception will be held on the “Lastavica” ship for the guests and all those present.
Laying wreaths provides an opportunity to remember the brave sailors who gave their lives in the service of the sea, and to strengthen the unity among the maritime community.
