Croatia is ninth in the European Union in terms of number of overnight stays in 2024. year and first in terms of the number of overnight stays in relation to the number of inhabitants. The year was a record for the EU – the total number of overnight stays exceeded three billion. The best result was recorded by Spain, followed by Italy, France and Germany.
The European Union has recorded its best tourism year ever. Eurostat says that 2024. Over three billion overnight stays were recorded there. Specifically, 65.4 million, or 2.2 percent more than a year earlier.
Spain holds the first place with 500 million overnight stays, followed by Italy (458 million), France (451 million) and Germany (441 million). These four countries are convincing tourism leaders – together they accounted for 61.6 percent of all overnight stays in the Union. Croatia is in ninth place with 92.64 million overnight stays.
In Croatia, one domestic guest for every ten foreign guests
If the number of overnight stays is taken as a criterion according to the number of inhabitants, Croatia holds first place in the entire Union. It recorded 24.26 overnight stays per capita. If we ignore Cyprus, Croatia also has the highest ratio of overnight stays between domestic and foreign tourists. They were the first to achieve 8.69 million overnight stays in 2024. year, and the second 84.96 million.
The growth in overnight stays in Croatia compared to the previous year was a small 1.4 percent, but the fourth quarter recorded better results. It recorded 5.32 million overnight stays, which is 10.2 percent more than in the same period last year. In terms of quarterly growth, only Malta (16.5 percent), Latvia (12.5 percent) and Italy (11.1 percent) are ahead of Croatia.
