The celebration of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors in Jesenice

The parish of St. Roko in Jesenice and Jesenice boatmen are preparing the celebration of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors and children. Jesenice, a place with a long tradition of shipping and maritime culture, known for numerous seafaring families and people who have always lived by the sea and by the sea, celebrate this holiday with a special sense of pride.

The celebration begins with a three-day event, which will last from December 3rd till the 5th. On the first day, December 3rd, the Holy Mass will be led by Don Ivica Tolla, which will be followed by all-night adoration. On the second day, Father Ivan Raljušić will lead the Mass, after which Ksenija Abramović will share her testimony with Laudato TV. While on December 5th, the Mass will be led by Don Mijo Grozdanić. On Thursday evening, the three-day event will be concluded with a folk festival.

The central part of the celebration will be held on the holiday of St. Nicholas, on Friday, December 6th. The program begins with a silent Holy Mass at 8 am. Then at 10 o’clock there will be a procession and a solemn Holy Mass, which will be led by Don Edvard Punda, pastoral vicar of the Split-Makarska Archdiocese. In the afternoon, at 5 p.m., there will be a mass with a special blessing for the children.

All locals and worshipers of Saint Nicholas are invited to participate in this significant event, which also pays tribute to the history and identity of Jesenice as a place deeply connected to the sea.
