The Faculty of Maritime Affairs in Split established the Economic Council, and the Croatian Association of Private Shipowners, the largest and most important organization of tourist shipowners on the Adriatic, decided to actively participate in its work. This cooperation represents an important step in connecting higher education and the economic sector.
The Economic Council, established as an advisory body of the Faculty, is aimed at encouraging joint projects, adapting study programs to the needs of the labor market, popularizing scientific and professional activities, applying research in the economy, and supporting excellent students through scholarships. Special attention will be put on the development of innovation, entrepreneurial culture and lifelong education in accordance with the needs of the economy.
The Croatian Association of Private Shipowners, which has more than 250 members who own modern and luxurious tourist mini-cruisers mostly stationed in the port of Krilo Jesenice, welcomed this initiative of the Faculty.
“We welcome the establishment of the Economic Council and are happy to participate in its work. We believe that this cooperation will contribute to the development of knowledge and technologies in the tourism sector and provide significant benefits to all parties,” said the Association.
The tasks of the Economic Council are:
− encouraging cooperation on the application and implementation of joint scientific, development and professional projects
− monitoring, proposing and harmonizing new study programs with the labor market
− better connections between the Faculty and the economy in the research of graduate and doctoral students, especially for those studying economy
− organization of lifelong education programs in accordance with the needs of the economy
− higher quality performance of professional practice, encouraging cooperation on the development of innovations and advanced technologies and the application of scientific research in the economy
− improvement and development of entrepreneurial culture
− encouraging excellence through scholarships for the most successful students
− participation as a focus group in the creation of the Faculty Strategy
− organizing round tables and forums, with the purpose of stimulating the development of the economy and the greater influence of science on the creation of economic policy in Dalmatia and Croatia as a whole
− encouragement of other forms of education of interest to the Dalmatian and Croatian economy, i.e. to the development of the Faculty.
