The recovery of the Crown of the Sea from the port of Split has begun

Yesterday, a demanding operation to salvage the passenger ship Kruna mora, which sank on July 8th due to a severe storm, began in the Split city port.

The accident occurred when the ferry Petar Hektorović hit the Kruna mora while it was moored to the Voyage. The Voyage also suffered damage in the collision, but managed to stay afloat.

Immediately after the accident, due to the risk of marine pollution, a triple protective barrier was installed around the sinking site. The entire area has since been under constant surveillance by the Split Port Authority.

The ship is being lifted using cranes and specialized equipment, and the operation is being led by the company Krka sub maris. A dozen experts are participating in the work, and at this point it is difficult to estimate how long the entire process will take. After it is lifted, the ship will be transported to the North Port, where further operations are planned. Dismantling and disposal are assumed.

After the incident, the ferry Petar Hektorović was kept at the mooring until the technical inspection and on-site investigation were completed.
