According to Eurostat estimates, in the EUROPEAN Union, almost 3 billion tourist overnight stays were recorded last year, which is 53.4 million or 2 percent more than in 2023. This means that the number of overnight stays has reached record levels. Such an increase in overnight stays in the EU in 2024 was mainly contributed by international tourists, whose overnight stays increased by almost 59 million compared to 2023. <\/p>\n\n
In contrast, domestic tourists recorded around 5.3 million fewer overnight stays than in 2023, according to the first estimates by Eurostat, which also state that the share of domestic tourists in total overnight stays was around 52 percent, and foreign tourists around 48 percent.<\/p>\n\n
Among accommodation facilities, the most, or around 63 percent of all overnight stays, or around 1.9 billion, were recorded in hotels and similar accommodations. With a share of 24 percent or 711 million overnight stays, holiday apartments and other short-stay accommodation follow, while campsites are third with a share of 13 percent or 396 million overnight stays. <\/p>\n\n
Eurostat also states that, according to initial estimates, almost all EU member states recorded an increase in overnight stays in 2024 compared to 2023, with Luxembourg recording the highest increase of 22 percent, followed by Malta, 13 percent, and Latvia, 7 percent. At the same time, France and Belgium are among the few with a decrease in the number of overnight stays, around 1 percent, while Sweden, Finland and Italy are, it is stated, at a similar level to 2023. <\/p>\n\n
According to initial Eurostat estimates, Croatia will share 20th place among all EU member states in 2024 with Lithuania, with an increase of around 1 percent in the number of overnight stays compared to 2023. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
