The start of works on the extension of the Stupe Wastewater Treatment Plant, the second largest wastewater treatment plant in the Republic of Croatia, was officially marked in Split today. It is one of the most important projects in the field of water management in the Republic of Croatia. It is worth almost 80 million euros (excluding VAT) and will contribute in the long term to environmental protection, preservation of sea quality and improvement of municipal standards in the Split and surrounding area. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
The start of the works was symbolically marked by representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, Croatian Waters, Split-Dalmatia County, the City of Split, and Vodovoda i kanalizacije d.o.o. Split.State Secretary of the relevant ministry Anja Bagari\u0107 emphasized that this is a project of exceptional importance for environmental protection and the quality of life of citizens.<\/p>\n\n
Better marine protection<\/h2>\n\n
“The project to upgrade the Stupe Wastewater Treatment Plant represents a strategic investment in environmental protection, preserving sea quality and raising municipal standards. Upgrading the existing plant from the first to the second stage of treatment will ensure modern wastewater treatment for a capacity of 275,000 population equivalents, thus creating the prerequisites for even better protection of the Bra\u010d Channel sea, natural resources and human health,” emphasized State Secretary Bagari\u0107. <\/p>\n\n
The upgrade of the device is part of the project “Improvement of the water and utility infrastructure of the Split – Solin agglomeration”, with a total value of more than 321 million euros. The project will build and reconstruct almost 65 kilometers of water supply network, which will reduce losses in the system and enable connection to the public water supply for more than 4,000 new users. At the same time, almost 124 kilometers of sewage network will be built and reconstructed, which will improve the drainage and wastewater treatment system for around 259 thousand residents of the Split – Solin agglomeration. State Secretary Bagari\u0107 added that this project is an example of successful cooperation between the Republic of Croatia, the European Union and all involved partners.“European funds, national investments and cooperation of all stakeholders enable the implementation of projects that have a real and long-term impact on the quality of life of citizens. Investments in water management are not only investments in infrastructure, but also in the protection of our sea, environment, human health and sustainable development,” she said. <\/p>\n\n
She pointed out that the project is part of a strong investment cycle through which the Government of the Republic of Croatia has been systematically improving water management across the country in recent years. Since 2016, more than 5.2 billion euros have been invested in water management projects in the Republic of Croatia, while more than 534 million euros have been invested in the Split-Dalmatia County. <\/p>\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n

Investing in the future of Split<\/h2>\n\n
State Secretary Anja Bagari\u0107 thanked Hrvatske vode, the City of Split, Vodovod i kanalizacija d.o.o. Split, designers, contractors and all experts who participated in the preparation and implementation of the project.“This project is not just an investment in infrastructure. It is an investment in the future of Split, in the protection of our sea and environment, and in the sustainable development of the entire region,” concluded State Secretary Bagari\u0107. The General Director of Hrvatske vode, Zoran \u0110urokovi\u0107, pointed out that with the construction of almost 2,600 new connections, the level of connection to the public sewage system will increase from 87 to 97 percent, which will reach standards comparable to the most developed European countries.“The development of water and utility infrastructure does not end there. In the Split-Dalmatia County, around 650 kilometers of sewage network and approximately 450 kilometers of new water supply pipelines are currently being built,” said \u0110urokovi\u0107. <\/p>\n\n
The Mayor of Split, Tomislav \u0160uta, pointed out that he personally participated in the preparation of the project back in 2018 and emphasized that the Split – Solin and Ka\u0161tela – Trogir agglomeration projects, with a total value of 568 million euros, represent one of the largest infrastructure projects in the recent history of this area. He expressed the expectation that the upgraded device will be fully functional in approximately 18 months and said that investments of this value show the scale of development that Croatia is achieving in the field of water and utility infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n
The Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County, Bla\u017eenko Boban, pointed out that six agglomeration projects are being implemented in the county, stressing that such investments may be less visible to citizens because most of the infrastructure is being built underground. He added that the total value of these projects reaches around 930 million euros and singled out the agglomerations of Split – Solin, Ka\u0161tela – Trogir, Sinj, Trilj, Imotski and Vrbovska. He also thanked the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovi\u0107 for the funds provided for their implementation. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
