A 2024 survey showed that 54% of Croatians aged 15 and over had taken at least one private multi-day trip. Also, 46% of residents in the same age group had not traveled. .
How often the domestic population travels, why, where and when they go on trips, how long they last and how much they spend on them, are just some of the questions that the latest CBS survey on the tourism activities of Croatian citizens should answer. CBS interviewers will conduct the survey this month, by telephone, on a sample of 5,000 randomly selected households, and data will be collected on domestic and foreign trips that ended in January, February and March 2026. It will include private and business trips outside the usual environment – regardless of whether it is visiting relatives or friends, going to a weekend house, a seaside holiday, going shopping, skiing, wellness and spa holidays, holidays in spas and using health resort services, hiking, visiting national parks and protected natural areas, cruising, going to an education or seminar, going hunting/fishing, or religious trips.
If someone has not traveled, data is collected on the main reasons for not traveling, and interviewers will also ask several questions about the local population’s satisfaction with tourism. The CBS says that such data is an important source of information for all stakeholders in the field of tourism who deal with economic analysis and market forecasts, and is used to assess the economic importance of tourism and adopt various economic measures.
A 2024 survey showed that 54% of Croatians aged 15 and over had taken at least one private multi-day trip, while 46% of the same age group had not traveled. The main reasons for private multi-day trips were a seaside holiday (swimming and sunbathing), visiting relatives or friends, sightseeing, excursions, culture, entertainment, and reasons for not going – lack of financial resources, health reasons, and work and family obligations. All EU member states are required to conduct this survey, according to the same methodology, which allows for data comparability. Data for each country can be found on the Eurostat website in the field of tourism.
