According to the first data from the eVisitor system, Croatia recorded 7.5 million arrivals and 29.3 million overnight stays in the first six months of this year. Compared to the same period last year, this is a 4 percent increase in arrivals and overnight stays. Of these, 27 million overnight stays were recorded on the Adriatic, which is 4 percent more than last year. On the continent, 1.1 million overnight stays were recorded, which represents a 1 percent increase. In the city of Zagreb, 1.2 million overnight stays were recorded, which represents a 2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
“The results for the first six months of this tourist year have clearly shown us how competitive Croatian tourism is. All data, from physical to financial, and the achieved road, air and sea traffic, are in the positive, so compared to last year in this period we have an increase of more than 260 thousand arrivals and more than a million overnight stays, air traffic is 11% better overall, and when we talk about foreign tourist income for the first quarter, we earned 54 million euros more. This is the first transitional period for this tourist year, which we are satisfied with, which is in line with our expectations and announcements and is a strong wind at our back for the season and post-season,” said Tonči Glavina, Minister of Tourism and Sports.
He especially congratulated the entire tourism sector, without which all these results would not have been nearly as successful and emphasized that these results are also an indication that the Government has adopted quality strategic and legislative frameworks, which every year position us more and more strongly as a year-round tourist destination.

Results by county
When we segment Croatia’s tourism performance by county, during the first six months the highest number of overnight stays was recorded in Istria (8.6 million overnight stays, an increase of 2 percent), Split-Dalmatia County (5.2 million overnight stays, an increase of 3 percent) and Kvarner (4.7 million overnight stays, an increase of 6 percent). This was followed by Zadar County (3.3 million overnight stays, an increase of 3 percent), Dubrovnik-Neretva County (2.9 million overnight stays, an increase of 3 percent), Šibenik-Knin County (1.4 million overnight stays, an increase of 7 percent) and Lika-Senj County (831 thousand overnight stays, an increase of 5 percent). Looking at destinations in the first half of the year, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded in Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Zagreb, Split, Poreč, Umag and Zadar.
“The achieved results show that Croatia continues with positive trends and confirms its position as one of the most desirable destinations in the Mediterranean. The growth of tourist traffic is the result of the joint work of the entire tourism sector, from public institutions and the private sector to local communities, and the strong promotion of our country on international markets also played a key role. We are particularly pleased with the growth in the pre-season, which confirms that our efforts in developing the year-round offer are yielding concrete results. With positive results and trends, we enter the main part of the tourist year with additional optimism, but also with awareness of the importance of maintaining a balance between growth and preserving the quality of the experience for every visitor,” izjavio je Kristjan Staničić, direktor Hrvatske turističke zajednice.
