Graduates will become managers of marinas, charter bases, yachts or crisis managers!
The Polytechnic in Rijeka is launching a professional study program “Coastal and Nautical Tourism” in October, which is based on operational skills, management and finance, marketing and hospitality, and sustainability and ecology, and graduates will become managers of marinas, charter bases, yachts, or crisis managers.
“Our mission is to educate generations that will lead the blue economy smartly and sustainably,” says the Polytechnic of Rijeka.
They point out that the European Union’s “Blue Growth” Strategy recognizes coastal and nautical tourism as a key economic driver and that Croatia, a world leader with 40 percent of the global charter fleet, today needs a strategic shift. The growth model based on the number of overnight stays has reached its limits, and modern guests are looking for innovation and sustainability, which requires highly educated personnel, they add.
The program carries 180 ECTS credits and emphasizes practical knowledge through 10 specialized practicums and 336 hours of practice in 130 partner companies, such as ACI, Marina Punat, Marina 21 Group, Pitter Travel Agency, Angelina Yachting, Katarina Line, MennYacht Group, Aspar-Rigging and others, which, they emphasize, guarantees direct transfer of knowledge from the real sector.
According to the Polytechnic, the project was developed under the leadership of the Head of the Business Department, Ozren Rafajec, and with the support of Dean Marin Golob and the newly elected Dean Bernard Vukelić, in close cooperation with industry.
