This year, Veleri University of Applied Sciences launched a new three-year professional undergraduate study program in Coastal and Nautical Tourism. The program focuses on the management of marinas and charter companies, the sustainable development of coastal areas, and the acquisition of practical knowledge and skills. The launch of this program was accompanied by the signing of a commendable cooperation agreement between the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP) – Nautical Sector Association and Veleri University of Applied Sciences in Rijeka.

The goal of the signed Agreement is to strengthen cooperation between the educational system and the economy. Especially through the involvement of students in the work of the company, the organization of professional practice, joint projects and the exchange of knowledge and experience.

This collaboration can be beneficial to HUP members—specifically the Nautical Sector Association—both by offering the opportunity to participate in the training of future professionals and by allowing them to gauge the potential of future employees.

Amidst a pronounced labor shortage and the growing challenge of finding qualified personnel in the nautical sector, the model of practical training and student internships offers employers an opportunity to identify, guide, and secure high-quality professionals at an early stage. Conversely, it paves the way for students to acquire practical skills and enter the labor market more quickly and confidently.
