According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, in September 2025, commercial accommodation facilities recorded 2.4 million arrivals and 11.9 million overnight stays, which is an increase of 5.7% in arrivals and 6.3% in overnight stays compared to September 2024.
Foreign guests still dominant
Strani turisti ostvarili su 2,2 milijuna dolazaka i 11,2 milijuna noćenja (+5,1% dolazaka, +6,2% noćenja), dok su domaći gosti imali 257 tisuća dolazaka i 724 tisuće noćenja (+11,8% dolazaka, +7,6% noćenja).
German tourists leading
A third of all overnight stays by foreign guests were recorded by Germans (3.8 million, +14.1%). They are followed by Austria, Poland, Slovenia, the UK, the Czech Republic, the USA, Italy and Hungary. The largest increases were recorded by guests from the USA (+7.7%), Slovenia (+5.3%) and Poland (+4.2%), while decreases were recorded in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Italy.
Camps on the rise
Campsites recorded the highest growth: +15.5% arrivals and +16.5% overnight stays. More than half of the camper overnight stays were made by Germans, followed by Austrians and Slovenians. Hotels recorded a 4.5% increase in overnight stays, while resorts and similar facilities held the largest share of total overnight stays (44.6%).
Istria and Central Dalmatia lead in overnight stays
Half of all September overnight stays were recorded in the Istrian and Split-Dalmatian counties. Istria leads with 3.7 million overnight stays (+9.3%), followed by Split-Dalmatia (2.4 million, +3.7%) and Primorje-Gorski Kotar (1.9 million, +7.5%). Among the destinations, Rovinj is the most visited by foreign guests (586 thousand overnight stays), and the City of Zagreb by domestic guests (40 thousand).
Positive trend in the first nine months as well
From January to September 2025, 18.7 million arrivals and 89.4 million overnight stays were recorded (+2.3% arrivals, +1.2% overnight stays). German tourists remain the most numerous (20 million overnight stays), followed by Slovenia, Austria and Poland. Domestic guests recorded an 8.6% increase in arrivals and a 6.1% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period last year. The most successful counties are Istria, Split-Dalmatia and Primorje-Gorski Kotar, which together account for almost two-thirds of total overnight stays.
