The question arises as to how other EU members will position themselves after this move.
Greece has unilaterally decided to exempt British travelers from the European Union’s new Biometric Registration System (EES) in order to reduce congestion and waiting times at its airports.
A statement on the Greek embassy’s website and posts on its official social media channels now confirm that the rules have been lifted. The statement reads: “As part of the implementation of the Entry/Exit System, from 10 April 2026, British passport holders are exempt from biometric registration at Greek border crossings.”
Instead of fingerprinting and facial scanning, British citizens will continue to undergo only a quick passport check and stamping when entering Greece.
The question arises as to how other EU members will position themselves after this move.
The European Union Entry/Exit System, or EES, came into effect on April 10th.
