The project to develop the Krilo Jesenice port was the topic of a meeting with the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, in Split-Dalmatia County, and it was emphasized that it is an investment worth around 50 million euros for which a financing model is currently being sought.

Prefect Blaženko Boban said that the project was further highlighted during the conversation, primarily taking into account domestic shipowners.

“We will try to find the possibility to start that project as well, given the completed documentation of our Port Authority,” said Boban.

The question was also raised whether the port would be open to public traffic or would serve exclusively existing ships from the town.

‘It will be a port open to public traffic,’ Minister Butković replied briefly.

To the reply that it was said in public that it would be a port for ‘their ships’, he replied:

“There are rules in every port and that will be the case in this one as well. It cannot be a private port for someone else’s ships,” the minister said.

He added that ports open to public traffic are being built along the coast, and that this one is also foreseen in the spatial plan and documentation prepared by the County Port Authority.

“It will be managed by the County Port Authority. There is order in every port and it will be the same here. No one will get a berth just because they were born there or are engaged in a certain activity, without following the prescribed procedure,” the minister said.

When asked how many berths the new port will have, considering that there are already a large number of ships there, the minister said that the number is determined by the project and expert studies.

“The number of berths is determined according to the project and maritime studies. If the port has a hundred berths, it will have a hundred berths. People can buy as many ships as they want,” he said.

He emphasized that the County Port Authority is developing the project and seeking funds for its implementation.

‘I am not the one who determines the number of berths, it is determined by the County Port Authority. In any case, no one will have priority. No one can have priority in any port. There are rules,’ the minister concluded.
