As soon as the fires that broke out last night in the Omiš and Makarska areas were extinguished, a series of fires were recorded at the entrance to the Biokovo Nature Park around 3 p.m., reports HRT. Fire in two places in the area of Tučep. After that, it caught fire in three places in the Podgora area. The fires have been brought under control and are being extinguished. It is suspected that they were framed, so the police are asking citizens if they have seen suspicious persons to inform them.
Around 15 hectares of low vegetation and grass burned in the Omiš and Makarska areas. Around 150 firefighters and around 40 vehicles participated in extinguishing the fires. The County Fire Operations Center published a chronology – a series of fires broke out in several locations within a short period of time, even though there was no wind.
It is suspected that the fires were set intentionally.
HTV reporter Ivana Šilović spoke to Dnevnik at noon from Omiš and said that there was no official police version yet.
– The police say that their inspectors are on the ground, so we will know more after that. However, what we have heard unofficially and learned from the locals here, they say that a motorcycle was allegedly seen and a person throwing some kind of incendiary device towards this part of the forest. Of course, these are all rumors, we need to wait for the police to do their job. The inspectors are currently in the premises of the Brela DVD. So, last night at around 8 pm, small fires broke out in seven places from Pisak to Brela. All services went to the ground, they resolved the situation very quickly, and therefore it is assumed that this fire could have been started. We will find out when the police come out with their reports, she said.

– The fires were already extinguished last night, at least as far as this part of Omis is concerned. Last night, it caught fire in four places in the Omiš area and in two places in the Makarska area, she added.
Šilović spoke with the commander of the Omiš DVD, Višeslav Pešić, who pointed out that the situation in the Omiš area is really good.
– This morning, the firefighters returned to their homes, so none remained on the field. Last night, in a short period of time, we had four reports in the area of the city of Omiš, which together with the area of Makarska, through the coordination of both areas, we brought under control very quickly. I thank all the firefighters for their efforts and work last night, especially the volunteers who help us who are professionally employed in the fire department, he emphasized.
“Situations are sometimes unreal”
He pointed out that in their work they are used to situations that are sometimes unreal.
– Our part, when the phone rings, is to all raise all forces at the same moment from the area, Omiš or Makarska, which are close to each other. That way, we are in a position to help our citizens every minute. I hope it will stay that way. There were four interventions in the Omiš area, two in the Makarska area, so everything was done together with joint forces, he said.
Going out on into the field
He emphasized that in the summer months, when a fire breaks out, all forces come out together.
– So that they take the field as soon as possible, with as many forces as possible. In the case of arriving on the ground, if we see that the situation is out of control, we raise other forces from the area of the county, so we are in coordination with the fire operations center, in coordination with everything that happens on the ground, and that’s how we act, he concluded.

In the Dubci – Slime area, an open space fire started at 7:50 p.m., and the Zadvarje, Omiš, Brela and Baška Voda fire departments participated in the intervention, a total of 7 vehicles and 27 firefighters.
The fire was mostly burning in the Brela-Carevići area at several different locations, and from 8:30 p.m., the Brela Fire Department, the Makarska Fire Department, and the Makarska, Tučepi, Baška Voda, Promajna, Podgora and Drvenik, Omiš, Kučiće, and Gata Fire Departments participated in the interventions. There were a total of 29 vehicles and about 120 firefighters. The fire was brought under control at 11:30 p.m.
The fire was spotted around Pisak at 8:57 p.m., and the fire departments of Omiš, Dugi Rat, Gata, Kučiće, Baška Voda, Makarska and Brela, or 14 vehicles and 50 firefighters, were dispatched to intervene. The fire was extinguished at 11 p.m.
Makarska firefighters also intervened to put out a fire in an apartment in Makarska where the kitchen burned down shortly before 10 p.m. Three vehicles and seven firefighters participated in the extinguishing, according to the Split Fire Department.
