A large fire broke out in the Krilo Jesenice area, east of Split, just before 3am last night. The fire engulfed scrubland, grass, low vegetation and pine forest. Aided by a strong bora wind, it spread extremely quickly towards nearby houses and the Adriatic Highway.

Due to safety and to enable firefighting interventions, the Jadranska magistrala section from Mutogras to Omiš is closed to all traffic from 6:15 am. Police are diverting vehicles to alternative routes, and drivers are urged to follow the officers’ instructions.
More than 150 firefighters with 50 vehicles from all over the Split-Dalmatia County have been working on the scene since early morning, with the support of four air tankers and one Air Tractor. The main goal was to defend the houses that were directly threatened. Thanks to the quick response and coordinated action of the firefighters and air support, all houses have been successfully defended so far.

Several residents from the most vulnerable areas were evacuated as a precaution. According to available information, no one was seriously injured, although the locals spent the night and morning in great uncertainty.
The fire is currently under control in most of the affected area, there is some smoke clearing and the fire is no longer spreading. Through superhuman efforts, firefighters managed to push the fire away from the houses.
