State Secretary for Road Transport, Road Infrastructure and Air Transport Tomislav Mihotić participated in the meeting of the Council of the European Union for Transport, Telecommunications and Energy (TTE) held on June 8, 2026 in Luxembourg within the framework of the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The key topics of the meeting included the decarbonisation of the transport sector after 2030 and the adoption of strategic documents for European ports and the maritime industry. Ministers took note of the progress made on the proposal on the greening of large companies’ fleets, which foresees minimum shares of clean vehicles owned by large companies in the Member States. State Secretary Mihotić stated in his intervention that the proposal contributes to climate goals while at the same time stimulating the supply of affordable used vehicles on the market. During the exchange of views on the decarbonisation of transport after 2030, the importance of maintaining a balanced approach, which implies parallel planning of obligations and measures for all stakeholders, including vehicles and infrastructure, was highlighted.

State Secretary Mihotić emphasized the need for flexibility in achieving the set goals and focusing on measures that can bring the fastest and broadest effects, such as investments in public transport, especially railways, and accelerated greening of larger vehicle fleets. The discussions took place in the context of the European Union’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent by 2040.

At the meeting, the ministers also considered two sets of conclusions – on the Industrial Maritime Strategy and the EU Ports Strategy, which is of particular importance for Croatia as a maritime country with a long tradition in shipbuilding.

Let’s add that the ministers of 17 European Union member states signed a joint declaration that envisages the creation of a cross-border environment for autonomous vehicles.
