The 6th session of the CNTB Tourist Council was held, at which Kristjan Staničić was appointed as the Director of the CNTB for a four-year term by a unanimous decision of the Council members. This officially concluded the Competition for the selection and appointment of the Director of the CNTB, which was open until March 30 this year. We would like to remind you that Director Staničić has held this position since July 2017, when he was first appointed as the Director of the CNTB.
Director Staničić thanked the Tourist Board of HTZ, as well as the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Tonči Glavina, for the trust shown. “For me, re-election to the position of director of HTZ first of all represents a responsibility towards Croatian tourism, all tourism employees and partners. But also Croatia as a whole, given that tourism is one of our most important economic branches. I sincerely thank Minister Glavina and all members of the Tourism Council for their trust. Together, we have successfully responded to numerous challenges over the past few years. I am especially happy that we have further strengthened Croatia’s international position as a high-quality, safe and sustainable destination that attracts guests throughout the year,” said Staničić.

Exceeded 110 million overnight stays
He particularly emphasized that Croatia today has eight million more overnight stays than in 2017. In other words, the figure of 110 million overnight stays has been exceeded on an annual basis. Numerous campaigns and promotional activities carried out by the Croatian Tourist Board on domestic and foreign markets played an important role in this. The above is also confirmed by the growth in traffic from the most important source markets, both European and distant. The US market stands out in particular, which has recorded a continuous and significant increase in tourist arrivals and overnight stays in the past few years. The Croatian Tourist Board also played an important role in positioning Croatia as an aviation destination.
“In the new mandate, we will continue to work on further strengthening the competitiveness of Croatian tourism. Developing a year-round offer, sustainable destination management and promoting all Croatian regions and tourism products. The emphasis will be on digitalization, the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, and further strengthening cooperation with strategic partners in order to maintain the growth trend of new airlines to our country. I would also like to remind you that we are soon releasing a completely new promotional video for Croatian tourism starring John Malkovich. In the coming years, this video will be the basis for new innovative marketing campaigns. I believe that by working together with all stakeholders, we can further improve the quality of Croatian tourism and ensure its sustainable growth for the benefit of local communities, the economy and all citizens,” concluded Staničić.
LCC Assembly 2027 in Istria
At the session, the Decision on the selection and appointment of directors of HTZ representative offices in six markets was also adopted. That is, in the markets of Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where the current directors were re-elected, while new ones were appointed in the markets of Slovenia, Scandinavia and China.
It should be added that the session also adopted the Decision on the approval of hosting the annual general meeting of the travel agency network Lufthansa City Center International GmbH (LCC), the world’s largest independent travel agency franchise, which operates through 600 offices in 110 markets and has been in business for more than 35 years. The annual general meeting of LCC is held every two years in different destinations, and for June 2027, interest has been expressed in holding the meeting in Istria. The planned number of participants is over 400, and these are high-ranking representatives, agency owners and leading managers in the tourism industry. Based on this Decision, the signing of a letter of intent, or the conclusion of an appropriate contract between the Croatian National Tourist Board, LCC and the Istrian County Tourist Board, will begin.
